"Just by chance I was taken to "fatbellykat" as a birthday surprise dinner last week and oh my goodness, what a taste sensation...I can't stop raving about the crumbed oysters and the ouzo cured ocean trout. We were greeted by Damian who was an impeccable host, delightfully professional, yet relaxed, and really looked after us very well all night. The decor was fresh and funky with a kitsch twist and fits the modern and relaxed feel of the menu. We were then wowed by his wife Kat's food. The attention to the menu and the love of excellent produce was obvious for start to finish. We started to count the number of home-made sauces and tapenades in our shared plates and lost count...We do a lot of catering and have been in the food industry for a long time and this was one of the most memorable meals I've had in my life...I know, it's a cliché, but this is truly one of Byron Bay's best kept secrets. Don't leave Byron Bay without eating at "fatbellykat". Or if you're a local, what are you waiting for? Thanks again Damian and Kat, an outstanding job all round. "
